1.9m tune in for latest 'Big Brother'

Last night's Big Brother highlights drew 1.91m (8.3%) for Channel 4, according to early viewing figures.

The 9pm show came fourth during its timeslot and was down 1.25m on last year's equivalent episode, which drew 3.16m (13.9%) on Wednesday, September 3, 2008. The drop represents a decline of 40% year-on-year.

A sizeable 333k (2.1%) then tuned in on Channel 4+1.

Earlier on Channel 4, Location, Location, Location put in 2.8m (12.4%) during the 8pm hour. After Big Brother, the 10pm screening of Ugly Betty managed a lowly 950k (5.6%).

Over on BBC One, Wildest Dreams had 3.81m (18%) at 7.30pm. The audience then dropped to 3.77m (16.2%) during the half-hour Seaside Rescue at 8.30pm. Later, at 9pm, Crimewatch put in 4m (17.3%).

BBC Two's Economy Gastronomy logged 1.84m (8.1%) during the 8pm hour, then 3.68m (15.9%) tuned in for the Dragons' Den finale at 9pm. Shooting Stars followed at 10pm, pulling in 2.23m (11.6%), down around 490k on last week's performance.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire averaged 5.3m (24.2%) between 7.30pm and 9.45pm for ITV1. Harry Potter: Behind The Magic followed, bringing in 2.42m (10.7%) between 9.45pm and 10pm.

Over on Five, 1.19m (6%) tuned in for Jet Li film Cradle 2 The Grave between 9pm and 11.10pm. Earlier, at 8pm, World War One In Colour drew 998k (4.4%).

Overall, ITV1 came top during primetime with an average share of 20.3% to BBC One's 18.8%. BBC Two was third with 11.1%, followed by Channel 4 with 7.8% (+1: 1%) and Five's 4.6%.

Elsewhere, 506k (2.4%) watched BBC Four's The Thirties In Colour during the 9pm hour.

'Big Brother' final is lowest rated ever

Last night's Big Brother final recorded the lowest finale ratings in the show's ten-series history, early figures suggest.

An average of just 2.88m (16.4%) tuned in to Channel 4 between 10pm and 11.15pm last night, a huge drop of almost 2m on last year's finale, which was itself the lowest-rated finale ever at the time.

The audience peaked 3.26m (17.6%) at 10.30pm when Sophie Reade was confirmed as the winner.

An earlier show, broadcast between 8.30pm and 9.30pm, drew 2.58m (11.8%).

Immediately after the final, the last episode of E4's Big Brother's Big Mouth was seen by 504k (4.8%).

Elsewhere last night, a My Family repeat brought in 3.12m (14.1%) to BBC One at 8.30pm. It was followed by Blackadder Rides Again, which averaged 3.38m (15.9%) in the 9pm hour.

On ITV1, Tonight: From Bin To Banquet interested 2.84m (13.4%) between 8pm and 8.30pm. Rebus won the 9pm hour with 3.94m (18.4%).

BBC Two's Mastermind took 2.02m (9.5%) at 8pm, outrating the 816k (3.5%) audience for C4 short doc The Boy Who Was Born A Girl. Gardeners' World claimed 1.88m (8.5%) at 8.30pm, then the latest episode of The Tudors put in 1.59m (7.4%) from 9pm.

Brighton Beach Patrol picked up a decent 1.36m (6.3%) for Five in the 8pm hour, then NCIS logged 1.42m (6.7%).

Overall, ITV1 triumphed in primetime with an average audience share of 21.3% to BBC One's 19.2%. Channel 4 was third with 9.2% (+1: 0.6%), followed by BBC Two with 7.7% and Five with 5.2%.
